RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Journalism
I was a qualified journalist working in regional daily newspapers and at the Press Association for five years. This taught me about what makes a good story and how to write it well.
Audience Development
Understanding visitors, their motivations and their expectations was essential to achieving our objectives at both RSPB The Lodge and Anglesey Abbey. At both places I lead teams to grow and diversify the visitor profile. Read my visitor and audience blogs here
Events & Programming
At Anglesey Abbey I led the move from a series of small events to a seasonal programme across the property which drove visits and income and maximised both the team's time and our opportunity to engage well with visitors. Read my programming blogs here
PR & Marketing
I worked in PR for eight years both in agency and in-house. At the RSPB I was PR Manager driving participation in the world's biggest wildlife survey - Big Garden Birdwatch.
Operations Management
I ran Anglesey Abbey, one of the National Trust's busiest properties, for eight years, leading a team of more than 350 staff and volunteers across a large commercial operation, visitor experience, house and garden conservation and facilities management. I also led outdoor teams at Wicken Fen and Houghton Mill and for the RSPB at The Lodge nature reserve. Read my operations management blogs here
Mentoring
I've been a leader of people for more than 20 years. I'm passionate about supporting individuals and teams to be the best they can be. Read my leadership-related blogs here
